Ashford Book Capital Cup Final Place
Penalty shootout sends Ashford to Final
Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies progressed to the final of the Capical Cup after victory over the New London Lionnesses at Regents Park.
Ashford arrived at the very windy Regents Park without players Irisha Smith, Vicky James, Hannah Noonan, Lauren Restel and Amber Luzar who were all unavailable.
The game started with Ashford dominating proceedings and Holly Isaacs going close from 30 yards forcing the goalkeeper to make a great save.
The Tangerines kept knocking on the door but the conditions made it very difficult to create any clear cut opportunities.
The second half was played in similar fashion but it was the home side, New London Lionesses, who scored the first goal of the game from a free kick.
The home side defended well despite being forced to defend deeper and deeper as the game progressed.
With four minutes left to play of normal time, Beth Sheehan whipped in a viscous cross which Isaacs finished off in superb fashion to end normal time at 1-1.
The game went straight to a penalty shootout, which Ashford won 5-4 with Sheehan tucking away the deciding penalty.
(Ashford win 5-4 on penalties)
