Ashford ladies draw level in pre season opener at Motspur Park

Ashford Town (Middlesex) began their preparations for the new football season in entertaining fashion after a 4-4 draw against Fulham Ladies at Motspur Park on Sunday afternoon.

Fulham opened the scoring after ten minutes and doubled their lead shortly after to go 2-0 up.

Ashford continued to attack with confidence and continued to create goal scoring opportunities.

Sequoia Belworthy was the first to get on the scoresheet for Ashford with a well timed volley from close range.

The away side were awarded a corner with ten minutes left to play of the half, which saw Hannah Pearson deliver an inviting cross for Charmaine Benham to head in.

The Tangerines continued to show flashes of brilliance in the final third of the pitch but it was the home side who defended resiliently to ensure the sides headed in level at the break.

H/T: 2-2

Ashford headed out in the second half, making a handful of changes to the squad.

Aga Żmudzka was one of the players who remained on the pitch and she proved her worth by sliding in a perfectly weighted pass for Ashley Cheatley to slide in the bottom corner.

The game was stretched in the second half with opportunities available for both teams to take a resounding lead and it was Fulham who scored two goals to put themselves in a position to win the game.

Holly Isaacs, a second half introduction, scored a trademark goal with five minutes to play to end this exciting pre season friendly 4-4.

F/T: 4-4

There were plenty of positives to draw from this game for both sides and we look forward to the friendly next weekend against CK Basildon.
