RESULT: QPR Development v Ashford Town (Middx) Ladies

Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies inspired by Ashley Cheatley, saw off Premier League opposition QPR Development in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy at Harlington on Sunday.

The home side went 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes of the game after Chloe Sampson and Anna Dzyadyk gave QPR an early lead.

The Tangerines had it all to do and were spurred on by Cheatley in the first half who grabbed a goal shortly after The Rs’ second.

Ashford soon found themselves level after Vicky James showed a turn of pace having picked up a loose clearance in the penalty box, only to be brought down by a recovering defender. James stepped up herself to calmly finish.

Cheatley wasn’t with her first goal and found space again in the final third to calmly place the ball under the diving goalkeeper.

It was a comeback to be proud of but Ashford knew they still had it all to do in the second half with QPR missing chances of their own.

H/T 2-3

As both teams came out for the second half Ashford nearly extended their advantage through Holly Isaacs however she saw her powerful effort miss the target.

QPR were then awarded a penalty but Lauren Restel made a game changing diving save to deny the home side an equaliser.

Ashford we’re galvanised from that moment and turned on the style when Cheatley grabbed her hatrick after Charmaine Benhams threaded pass set Lavana Neufville free who in turn made no mistake with her inch perfect cross for Cheatley to tap in.

Cheatley continued to be a thorn in the QPR defence and won a penalty in the dying minutes of the game. This time Hannah Pearson stepped up, hit the bar but Isaacs was there to finish the rebound.

Ashford continued to push on in stoppage time and scored another before the full time whistle when Pearson’s pass set Cheatley through again, this time confidently rounding the goalkeeper and calmly finishing.

A pleasing display from The Tangerine who continue their fine cup form again this season.

F/T: 2-6

Easter Sunday sees Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies returning to league action visiting Godalming Town for the second time this season.
