Ashford Ladies drew with Brentford WFC in an action packed league game at The Robert Parker Stadium.
Brentford had the best chance early on presented to them when a loose pass at the back saw Brentford through but their shot was fired over the crossbar.
A let off for The Tangerines who looked out of sorts in the first five minutes of the game. Once the home side settled, they created chances only to be denied by the woodwork.
After creative build up play, Lavana Neufville delivered in a cross only for Holly Isaacs to uncharacteristically mishit the ball.
A let off for Brentford however they were hard done by shortly after when the referee awarded Ashford an indirect free kick after a deflected shot was picked up by the goalkeeper. Vicky James stepped up as Charmaine Benham laid the ball off but James saw her strike cannon straight back off the crossbar.
Ashford finally found the breakthrough in Benham when a failed clearance was volleyed in stinging the palms of the goalkeeper to end up in the net.
Ashford were awarded another free kick outside of the box just before the halftime whistle when the lively Ashley Cheatley was brought down on the edge of the box.
This time Hannah Pearson stepped up and cheekily eluded the wall and the goalkeeper with a delicate pass into the far post only to strike the post and the referee to blow for half-time.
The Bees came out stronger in the second half and were more aggressive in their pressing strategy.
They found their equaliser when a deflected shot was misjudged and ended up in the goal.
A deserved equaliser and The Tangerines gave themselves more work to do. Benham went close to putting Ashford back in front but saw her shot hit the woodwork and fly out for a goal kick.
The away side found a second shortly after and then it was a mountain to climb for the home side.
Ashford avoided a second consecutive league defeat of the season however by scoring in the dyeing moments of the second half when Neufville leapfrogged Brentford’s defence to guide the ball into the net.
James went close with the last kick of the game, forcing another top save from the Brentford goalkeeper.
Ashford turn their attention to Cup football next weekend to face QPR Development in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy at The RPS.
