Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies FC booked a place in the final of the Capital Cup - Intermediate Section after a 4-2 victory over Abbey Rangers.
Abbey Rangers started the brightest of the two sides and took the lead with only two minutes on the clock.
The Tangerines knew it wouldn’t be easy and thought they levelled proceedings when Lavana Neufville flicked in Alissa Down’s corner but the referee ruled for a retake to cut celebrations short.
Shortly after Down was to pop up on the edge of the box after impressive build up play from The Tangerines to guide the ball into the bottom corner.
Minutes later, Neufville crossed in for the prolific Ashley Cheatley to cores the ball over the goalkeeper.
Ashford looked to be in command and reinforced their dominance when Down delivered in an inviting free kick for the impressive Mara DeLuca to head in and grab her first goal in Ashford colours.
Despite the score Abbey continued to push forward for a goal and grabbed a deserved second on the stroke of half time.
The Tangerines dominated the second half only for the Abbey Rangers goalkeeper to make a string of impressive stops but on the hour mark Down grabbed her second, beating the goalkeeper direct from a free kick.
Phoebe Head came close to increasing Ashford’s lead only to narrowly miss the target whilst Charmaine Benham saw her powerful effort turned round the post.
With Godalming defeating Leyton Orient (Development) on penalties, this sets up a repeat of last season JGMT final this time in the County Cup.
The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday 14th April 2019 at Meadowbank Football aground, RH4 1SX
More details will be released nearer the time...
