Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies got back to winning ways this weekend with a 3-1 victory over Brentford Women’s at The RPS in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy.
The game was evenly matched until the half hour stage where Lavana Neufville raced clear of the Brentford defence and struck onto the cross bar for Holly Isaacs' follow up to then be fired into the roof of the net.
Only five minutes later the returning Ashley Cheatley was played in by Charmaine Benham and made no mistake with her finish, tucking the ball into the bottom corner.
Brentford were a resilient side and came back at The Tangerines in inspiring fashion. Dana Johnson found herself with half a yard in front of goal and shot to beat Lauren Restel, diverting in off the post.
Laura Huse came close to extending the lead from a Vicky James free-kick, when she found herself unmarked in the penalty box but unable to direct her header on target.
Ashford Ladies continued to dominate possession however just couldn’t seem to find that elusive third goal to put the game out of Brentford’s reach.
Isaacs saw a venomous effort tipped over by the Bees’ goalkeeper whilst Neufville and Sophie Burgess had efforts narrowly missing the target.
It was in the dyeing moments of the second half however when Benham headed in James’ corner to sure up the game for the home side, putting behind last weeks disappointment.
