Ashford Town (Middlesex) Ladies progressed to yet another cup quarter final after a convincing 9-2 victory over Leyton Orient Development.
The opening 15 minutes was a cagey affair with no team really able to gain a foothold in the game.
The O’s were the side who looked most likely to score first and almost put themselves in the lead but just narrowly missed the target.
The Tangerines weathered the storm and found the net, to their relief. Nadia Peters and Hannah Pearson combined to release Ashley Cheatley, before the in-form forward rounded the goalkeeper to finish from a tight angle.
The travelling O’s came back fighting and soon found an equaliser after they were awarded a free kick. Their forward latched onto the failed clearance and fired in from close range.
Sofia Carpenter who was called up from the B Team made a good impression and turned provider for Lavana Neufville to restore Ashfords lead.
Again Leyton Orient came back and after capitalising on a failed clearance to poke in an equaliser three minutes after.
With five minutes remaining of the first half Carpenter found Pearson in space and the midfielder made no mistake with her twenty yard strike that flew over the goalkeeper and into the net.
The Tangerines looked a new side after the break and increased the tempo they worked at.
Neufville and Cheatley both added two more goals to their tally to both record hatricks for the day whilst Carpenter grabbed a deserved goal and Alissa Down scored the pick of the goals with a free kick just shy of the halfway line.
A resounding 9-2 result puts The Tangerines into the quarter-finals of the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy which they’re currently holders of.
