Ashford lose in the league

1 week ago By William Boye

GLWFL Division 1 Result

Ashford Town (Middlesex) lost to Hampton & Richmond Ladies in the first league fixture of the new year.

This defeat comes as a shock to most as the last time The Tangerines tasted defeat in the league was in December 2016.

The hosts began the strongest of the two however and created the best opportunities.

Hampton & Richmond soon broke the deadlock after latching onto a strike that cannoned off the crossbar to fire in early on.

The home side soon went two up after some great build up play.

Ashford Ladies looked to have got themselves back into the game after Vicky James’ rocket of a shot fired into the roof of the net.

The resilient Hampton however restored their two goal lead with an equally impressive long range strike of their own.

Holly Isaacs scored just before the halftime break however with missed opportunities in the second half that was not enough to prevent a first league defeat for Ashford.

F/T: 3-2

Next week sees the re-scheduled fixture of Ashford v Brentford in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy as we return to The RPS for the first time of 2018.
